SustainSolar, a wholly owned subsidiary of SustainGroup, offers an innovative range of modular, plug-and-play solar powered and solar-ready solutions for various applications, including mini-grids, remote healthcare centers and Commercial and Industrial power users. Our products are made with top-tier components, and are designed in Cape Town, South Africa. Operating since 2018, SustainSolar has a strong presence in the sub-Saharan region. We have extensive experience in designing, commissioning, shipping and servicing turn key PV generation and battery storage systems across sub-Saharan Africa. With a robust track record, we've successfully installed over 80 systems across 15 African countries (Angola, Benin, DRC, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Namibia, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, Zambia).
SustainPower, also a wholly owned subsidiary of SustainGroup, focuses on designing and supplying clean energy solutions for both domestic and industrial markets. In the industrial sector, we offer a range of solutions including biogas, natural gas, and other gas-to-power technologies for continuous, prime, or emergency standby power supply. With a particular emphasis on energy efficiency, SustainPower's systems help clients save money through power outage protection, peak shaving, and waste heat recovery. SustainPower also offers Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) that optimize energy consumption, provide backup power, and enable peak shaving and load shifting. This allows for greater control over energy usage and ensures a steady power supply during critical moments. SustainPower enables users to reduce costs, improve resiliency, and make more efficient use of renewable energy sources.

Tobias Hobbach
Managing Director
Tobias accumulated a wealth of experience in Financial Management and Business Strategy during the 10 years he spent working in Japan and Germany for one of the leading German car and truck manufacturers. He came to South Africa in 2012 as the CFO of one of the largest manufacturing companies in the country. His leadership skills and passion for manufacturing led to his role as CEO in a medium-sized, South African, engine building firm, before founding Sustainable Power Generation in 2016.

Matt brings over 10 years of experience in building and scaling African businesses in the energy and hospitality industries. With a keen interest in technology, open source, IoT, climate change mitigation, and sustainability, Matt has worked across operations, R&D, fundraising, grant writing, and stakeholder management. In his role as CEO at SustainSolar, Matt leads the company's strategic direction and drives innovative solutions to advance sustainable energy access. His extensive experience and passion for technology and sustainability make him a dynamic leader dedicated to making a positive impact in the renewable energy sector.
Julie Roberts
COO, Head of East Africa
Julie brings over 15 years of global experience in off-grid solar solutions, with a strong focus on rural electrification and supporting underserved communities, particularly women and youth. With six years of impactful work in East Africa, she holds a Master’s in Systems Engineering, a PMP certification, and a Bachelor’s in Physics and Astronomy. Julie’s multidisciplinary expertise and understanding of the intersections between energy, poverty, and gender drive her success in project management and team leadership. Her dedication to mentorship and continuous improvement ensures high-quality, sustainable, and affordable energy solutions that foster economic and social development.
